Yandina-Bli Bli Road & Caboolture Creek

Survey is now closed.

Here is a link to a survey that you may wish to participate in to advance YADCA’s campaign to get the one-lane bridge across Caboolture Creek on the Yandina-Bli Bli Road replaced: http://www.racq.com.au/badroads

During February RACQ is conducting a survey to name and shame Queensland’s worst roads – to identify roads that are in poor condition, unsafe or not fit for purpose. Results from the survey will be provided to road authorities to help identify and support improvements on the road network.

The survey takes about 5 minutes to complete, and your answers are confidential. The survey asks for your RACQ membership number if you have one, but it is not a required field.

YADCA has for some time been lobbying our elected representatives and government agencies to replace the old one-way timber bridge over Caboolture Creek on Yandina-Bli Bli Road with a safer multi-lane structure.

Detailed drawings of a new $11m high-level bridge and modified approaches for the site exist, but there are no plans to fund it anytime soon – we have not made a sufficiently compelling case for it to be given priority over other unsafe bridges elsewhere or even get it reinstated to the list of 17 bridges on the State Government’s bridge replacement program of 2005.

YADCA has successfully lobbied to get the signage improved and vegetation cleared to restore sight lines for approaching vehicles, but the official accident statistics and traffic volumes don’t make a sufficient case for urgent replacement.

Nevertheless, there are still often fresh sets of skid marks near the bottom of the descent, indicating that despite the improved signage and even though they can now see each other sooner, some drivers are failing to give right of way and/or others are cresting the ridge on the eastern approach too fast to stop safely if there is opposing traffic on the bridge.

People will continue to experience emergencies there – whether or not they crash – until the one-lane bridge is replaced.
