Yandina – historic town fun to visit on the Steam Train
Full day tour to the North Coast by Steam Train
Palmwoods, Yandina & Wildlife HQ or Mapleton & Mapleton Falls
Saturday 3 March, 8:40AM–16:55PM.
Hosted by the Australian Railway Historical Society – Queensland Division.
Departing from Roma Street our train will stop to pick up passengers at Northgate, Lawnton and Caboolture. The scenery on the North Coast Line is stunning. Once suburbia is left behind the route is through pineapple and citrus plantations and passes the spectacular Glass House Mountains. Areas of virgin scrub and rain forest are also encountered en route to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.
The steam train will take us as far as the thriving Hinterland town of Palmwoods.
Our travellers will then have 4 choices:-
A. Join a coach which will take you to Wildlife HQ Woombye take in what this wildlife park has to offer, see many different animals, and grab a bite to eat.
B. Join a coach to travel to Mapleton Falls, then to Mapleton where you can purchase a bite to eat, or a nice cool drink.
C. Stay in Palmwoods, have lunch at one of the several eateries or hotel and have a look around the town.
D. The train will be doing a short trip for local people to Yandina and return. You may purchase an additional ticket to travel on this shuttle. (Palmwoods – Yandina & return departs Palmwoods 11:25AM).
- While you are in Yandina have lunch at one of the several excellent eateries and have a look around the historic town. Pick up a Yandina Heritage Trail brochure from the Yandina Historic House and follow the 26 numbered sites for a fascinating walk through Yandina’s history.
THE TRAIN: One of Queensland Rail’s preserved main line steam engines and wooden carriages from Queensland Rail’s heritage fleet will be used.
