North Coast Steam Train

Saturday 4 November at 8:40–16:55

Roma Street station
Roma St, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia 4000

Departing from Roma Street our train will stop to pick up passengers at Northgate, Lawnton and Caboolture. The scenery on the North Coast Line is great. Once suburbia is left behind the route is through pineapple and citrus plantations and passes the spectacular Glass House Mountains. Areas of virgin scrub and rain forest are also encountered en route to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland. The steam train will take us as far as the thriving Hinterland town of Palmwoods.

Our travellers will then have 4 choices:-

A. Join a coach which will take you to the seaside resort of Mooloolaba where you can have a swim in the ocean or just have lunch and breathe in the salt sea air.

B. Join a coach to travel up the range to the quirky village of Montville – browse around the shops and enjoy lunch 400 metres above sea level.

C. Stay in Palmwoods, have lunch at one of the several eateries or hotel and have a look around the town.

D. The train will be doing a short trip for local people to Yandina and return. You may purchase an additional ticket to travel on this shuttle.

THE TRAIN: One of Queensland Rail’s preserved main line steam engines, probably one of the BB18¼ type, has been requested for this tour and is expected to be available. Wooden carriages from Queensland Rail’s heritage fleet will be used.
