Sunshine Coast Plein Air Paint Out

The ‘Sunshine Coast Plein Air Paint Out’ Exhibition will be open on Sunday 19th August during the Yandina Street Fair, at YB Connections corner of Low & Farrell Streets.

All day entertainment, Main Stage, Community Stage, Market Stalls, Food, Street Performers, Carnival Amusements, Rides, Gubbi Gubbi Story Telling, Petting Zoo, No Sound Playground, Community Gardens, Art Exhibition, Local Talent, Bearded Betty, Lippia, Ironstone, The Claptomaniacs, All Stars Show Band, Good Will Remedy,  Belly Dance SC, Remembering Phil Emmanuel with the Phil Emmanuel Band, Coruno Laser Show with Dancing and Entertainers.

Yandina Celebrates 150 Years

150 years ago on the road to the Gympie Goldfields land was first selected by Europeans in what is now Yandina on the Maroochy River.

Sunday 19th August, Yandina School of Arts.

  • Doors Open 9AM;

  • Historical Exhibitions;
  • Morning Tea;
  • Rides in a Coach and Four.

Yandina Street Fair begins across the road at 11AM.

A community project in collaboration with Sunshine Coast Council, Heritage Division, Seniors Week and Yandina Chamber of Commerce.

Steam Train to Visit Yandina, 3rd March 2018

Yandina – historic town fun to visit on the Steam Train

Full day tour to the North Coast by Steam Train

Palmwoods, Yandina & Wildlife HQ or Mapleton & Mapleton Falls

Saturday 3 March, 8:40AM–16:55PM.

Hosted by the Australian Railway Historical Society – Queensland Division.

Departing from Roma Street our train will stop to pick up passengers at Northgate, Lawnton and Caboolture. The scenery on the North Coast Line is stunning. Once suburbia is left behind the route is through pineapple and citrus plantations and passes the spectacular Glass House Mountains. Areas of virgin scrub and rain forest are also encountered en route to the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

The steam train will take us as far as the thriving Hinterland town of Palmwoods.

Our travellers will then have 4 choices:-

A. Join a coach which will take you to Wildlife HQ Woombye take in what this wildlife park has to offer, see many different animals, and grab a bite to eat.

B. Join a coach to travel to Mapleton Falls, then to Mapleton where you can purchase a bite to eat, or a nice cool drink.

C. Stay in Palmwoods, have lunch at one of the several eateries or hotel and have a look around the town.

D. The train will be doing a short trip for local people to Yandina and return. You may purchase an additional ticket to travel on this shuttle. (Palmwoods – Yandina & return departs Palmwoods 11:25AM).

THE TRAIN: One of Queensland Rail’s preserved main line steam engines and wooden carriages from Queensland Rail’s heritage fleet will be used.

On Saturday 18th March 2017 the Sunshine Express Rail Tours steam train will take passengers from Brisbane to the thriving Hinterland town of Yandina.

Travellers will then have 4 choices:-

  • A. Join a coach which will take you to the seaside resort of Noosa Heads where you can have a swim in the ocean or just have lunch and breath in the salt sea air.
  • B. Join a coach to travel to Mapleton Falls, then to Mapleton where you can purchase a bite to eat, or a nice cool drink.
  • C. Stay in Yandina, have lunch at one of the several excellent eateries and have a look around the historic town. Pick up a Yandina Heritage Trail brochure from the Yandina Historic House and follow the 26 numbered sites for a fascinating walk through Yandina’s history.
  • D. The train will be doing a short trip for local people to Cooroy and return. You may purchase an additional ticket to travel on this shuttle.

Australian Railway Historical Society steam train visits Yandina

Saturday 5th March 2016

The steam train departed Yandina at 11.55 am and ran non-stop to Cooroy and arrived back in Yandina at 1.35pm.

Australian Railway Historical Society (ARHS) member Ken Coulter and president Ken Fitzgerald were amazed at the popularity of the Yandina-Cooroy run.
